If you are currently planning an elopement to Cornwall, in which you want to complete the legal paperwork for your marriage but are worried about sourcing two reliable witnesses to do this, then this blog is just for you!

Bride in lace gown holding bouquet of pink and white roses, linked arm-in-arm with groom in dark suit wearing a watch. Elegant setting.

But firstly just in case any readers are wondering, "Why would I need a professional witness for my elopement or wedding?" Great question! There are plenty of reasons we’ve come across:

- Privacy: Perhaps you don’t want to choose two witnesses from your family or friendship group for fear of upsetting someone? Perhaps you just want to keep this completely special moment to yourselves? Whatever the reason, having professional witnesses allows you to have your legal wedding without anyone else knowing while still meeting all the legal requirements.

- Ease and convenience: Perhaps you’re planning something just for the two of you in a location you’re not familiar with? Many register offices are outside town centres - either on ring roads or industrial estates - so the romantic idea of grabbing two people off the street is less feasible than you might think! Booking a reputable professional is easy, convenient, and worry-free.

- Peace of mind: But let’s just say you do find two strangers who will do this for you. They might offer their time for free, but how can you be sure they will turn up or follow through? Will they be happy to sign your legal documents? Will they be there early and stay late to throw confetti, take photos, etc? Our experienced witnesses know exactly what to expect and are 100% reliable, so you can focus on the joy of your special day.

So next you might be asking, “So how does booking a professional wedding witness work?” Here’s a quick rundown:

1. Contact us: Reach out through our website or give us a call to let us know the details of your wedding day and check our availability. And if you haven’t booked your register office yet, we can even offer advice on which the ‘nicer’ ones are!

2. Discuss the price

We’ll provide you with a quote which is dependent on location and distance from our base, which factors in the time it takes us to get to your register office (especially in the summer months), the time of day your ceremony starts, our time spent with you, and any other expenses incurred, eg tolls or parking. But as a guide, prices start at £120 for two witnesses to attend a simple paperwork ceremony reasonably local to us.

2. Confirm the details: We’ll discuss everything to put your mind at rest, and if you have special requests, such as taking any photos on your camera or devices, throwing confetti, presenting your rings, holding your coats - you name it, we will try and sort it!

3. On the day: Our friendly and professional witnesses will arrive in good time, dressed appropriately, and ready and excited to be a part of your special moment.

4. Celebrate: With everything in place, you can focus on what truly matters - celebrating getting married!

Finally, you might be thinking, “Why should I choose the team at Celebrant in Cornwall to be my wedding witnesses?

We are wedding celebrants (and one of us is a former registrar, so we can even talk you through the legal process of getting married), and while we specialise in creating and delivering bespoke, professional, and personalised wedding ceremonies, what we don’t know about weddings in general isn’t worth knowing! And we truly understand that your wedding day is one of the most significant days of your life, however you approach it - so we are most definitely on your side!

In recent times, we’ve had more and more couples ask us if we can support them as witnesses when completing their legal paperwork, which is why we set up this service. We are friendly and warm, professional and reliable, thoughtful and non-judgemental, and we can also be discreet and confidential as required. Plus, we've got some pretty entertaining stories from past weddings, so if you're nervous, we can help lighten the mood!
