Every now and then, a ceremony stays with me long after I've left the venue. Anna and Lou's was one of those. It wasn't because everything was perfect. It was because every part of it reflected who they are, the people they love, and the life they've built together.

Every couple leaves their mark on me in different ways. Some make me laugh until my cheeks ache while I'm writing their ceremony. Others make me think deeply and remind me just how important this role really is. Anna and Lou somehow did both.
From our very first conversation, I knew we were going to be a good fit. They were warm, funny, kind and completely devoted to one another, but they were also honest about something that many same-sex couples still experience when planning a wedding. Finding the right wedding celebrant in Cornwall was just as important to them as finding the right venue. They wanted to know that the person standing at the front of their ceremony would genuinely understand them, tell their story with care, and create a space where they felt completely themselves.
Reading their review after the wedding, it was this sentence that stopped me in my tracks:
We never felt anything other than completely accepted, listened to and celebrated.
If there's one thing I hope every couple takes away from working with me, it's exactly that.
A Ceremony Built on Trust
Anna and Lou chose my unseen ceremony option, which meant they wouldn't hear a single word of their ceremony until they were standing in front of the people they love on their wedding day. It's a choice that requires an enormous amount of trust – and, if I'm honest, it brings with it a fair amount of responsibility too. After all, there's no opportunity for edits or last minute changes, so it's incredibly important that I get it right.
That's why, alongside spending time getting to know the couple themselves, I also speak to the people who know them best. Anna and Lou introduced me to family and friends who shared memories I'd never have discovered otherwise – moments that made me laugh out loud, little insights into what makes them such a wonderful partnership, and stories that reminded me that the best ceremonies aren't simply about how a couple met. They're about the life they've built together and the people who've had the privilege of watching that story unfold.
The Stories That Make a Ceremony Unforgettable
By the time their wedding day arrived on Saturday 20 June 2025, I already knew about the beach walks that had become such a big part of their relationship, the ragdoll cats who completely rule the household, the holidays that hadn't always gone quite to plan, and the wonderfully different personalities that somehow fit together perfectly. Anna brings energy and spontaneity wherever she goes, while Lou has a calmness that quietly steadies everyone around her.

Listening to their family describe them, it became so obvious that each had softened and strengthened the other over the years. It was in the little habits, the running jokes, and the adventures that have become legendary within the family that their relationship really came to life. Those moments don't just entertain guests; they help everyone see the couple through the eyes of the people who love them most. They're the details that turn a ceremony into something people remember, and they're the things you simply can't discover by asking a couple to fill in a questionnaire.
A Day Filled with Laughter, Love and Belonging
Their ceremony took place at Lula, overlooking beautiful Gwithian Beach on Cornwall's north coast – somewhere that already held so many happy memories for them. It felt like the perfect place to begin the next chapter of their story.
As I introduced their ceremony, I remember there was laughter almost from the very beginning. There were a few tears too, especially when we took a moment to remember Lou's mum, Pamela, whose love and influence continue to be such an important part of Lou's life. It was one of those moments where you could feel the entire room holding that memory with them.
Later, I shared the story of Lou's wonderfully understated proposal on the beach. With an unsuspecting Anna, a ring tucked safely away in Lou's pocket, and an ice cream to celebrate afterwards, there wasn't a guest who wasn't smiling – especially those who remembered receiving the now infamous text message proudly showing off that beautiful engagement ring.
Those are the moments I treasure most as a celebrant. Finding that gentle balance between laughter and emotion, and telling a story that feels so personal it couldn't possibly belong to anyone else.
Afterwards, Anna and Lou told me that I had quickly felt "more like a friend than a supplier." Those words meant the world to me because that's exactly the relationship I hope to build with every couple I work with. Being a wedding celebrant has never been just about writing a beautiful ceremony. It's about earning trust, listening carefully enough that people feel truly understood, and creating something that leaves guests saying, "That was so them."

To Anna and Lou, thank you for trusting me with your story. Thank you for inviting me into your lives, for introducing me to the people who love you, and for allowing me to create a ceremony that reflected not only your relationship but also the wonderful community you've built around you.
It was an absolute joy to stand beside you both on your wedding day, and I wish you a lifetime of sea swims, campervan adventures, beach sunsets and laughter.
Their Words, Not Mine
Rather than trying to explain what the experience meant to them, I thought I'd let Anna and Lou do that in their own words.
"From the moment we first met Lisa, we knew she was the right celebrant for us. She is bright, attentive, warm, funny, genuine and incredibly passionate about what she does. The thing that stood out most throughout our journey was how much she truly cares about the couples she works with and the time she invests in getting to know them properly.
As a same-sex couple, we had some concerns about finding the right person to tell our story and understand us. Lisa immediately took those fears away. We never felt anything other than completely accepted, listened to and celebrated. She treated us with such warmth and respect, and made us feel incredibly special throughout the entire process.
We chose Lisa's unseen ceremony option and would recommend it to anyone. She spoke with around ten of our family members and friends to gain a real understanding of us as individuals and as a couple. She also gave us a series of questions to complete together, which was such a fun part of the experience and really helped capture the essence of our relationship, our lives and our journey together.
The build-up to our wedding was easy, enjoyable and genuinely exciting. We met Lisa both on Teams and in person, and every interaction felt relaxed and natural. She quickly felt more like a friend than a supplier.
On the wedding day, Lisa went above and beyond. She took the time to meet our guests, introduce herself and get to know who everyone was. She explained how the ceremony would run and prepared everyone for our entrance, helping everyone feel comfortable and involved. She also met with us individually before the ceremony to check in and make sure we were both feeling calm and ready.
The ceremony itself was everything we could have hoped for – heartfelt, funny, emotional and completely unique to us. So many of our guests commented afterwards on how special it was and how brilliantly Lisa spoke. She captured our personalities, our story and the atmosphere of the day perfectly.
As a beautiful finishing touch, Lisa created a keepsake box containing our vows and all the lovely messages from our family and friends. It is something we will treasure forever.
If you are considering booking Lisa, don't hesitate. She is simply outstanding and, in our opinion, the best celebrant in the South West by a country mile. We cannot thank her enough for helping to create one of the most memorable and magical days of our lives."
The Couples Who Stay
One of the unexpected joys of being a celebrant is that, every so often, what begins as a wedding enquiry becomes something much more than that.
Over the years I've been invited back for naming ceremonies, anniversary celebrations and the occasional catch up over tea and cake. I've received news of house moves, babies, dogs and adventures. I've bumped into couples on Cornish beaches, in cafés and at local events, and every single time it makes me smile.
I have a feeling Anna and Lou will be one of those couples.
Because while a ceremony may only last half an hour, the relationships we build often last much, much longer. To me, that's one of the greatest privileges of being a wedding celebrant in Cornwall.

If you're planning your own wedding ceremony and are looking for a celebrant who'll take the time to tell your story with warmth, humour and authenticity, I'd love to hear from you.
A huge thank you to Andy Holter for the preview photographs from Anna and Lou's wedding at Lula, Gwithian. We hope to add some more in due course!
